SCUBA DIVING IN ALTEA
Take a scuba class to learn how to dive safely and correctly and receive your SCUBA certification card as a proof that you are a certified SCUBA diver.
It is probably easier to learn Scuba diving than you imagine. All it requires is that you are comfortable in the water and that you are a reasonably proficient swimmer who is comfortable and relaxed in the water. The swimming requirement for certification is an easy 183 meter nonstop swim - no time or specific stroke requirements in addition to a 10 minute tread/float.
Their entry level diver course is split into knowledge development, confined water (pool) skill training and four scuba training dives. The course is performance based, which means you progress as you learn and demonstrate knowledge and skill.
Recreational divers breathe air, not oxygen. It is filtered to remove impurities. But otherwise, the scuba tank is just like regular breathing. How long a scuba tank last depends on several factors, the rate you breathe in, how large the tank is, how deep you dive etc. As an approximation, though, a diver sightseeing in calm, warm water in the 5 meter/15 foot to 10 meter/30 foot range can expect the average tank to last about an hour.
In your scuba course you will learn a simple technique to equalize your ears to the surrounding pressure so they won't hurt. Scuba diving is as safe as swimming as long as you follow the rules and use common sense.
The maximum depth for a recreational SCUBA diver is 40 meters but you should not dive deeper than 18 meters without proper training. In the Advanced Open Water course Greenwich Diving offer you are shown the correct and safe way to make a deep dive. It is very exciting to see fish when you dive. The prettiest and most abundant fish are in the ocean. Most fish will ignore you, but some fish will let you get close to them but will stay out of your reach. Some will be curious and follow you around! Once you are certified, SCUBA diving cost about as much as 18 holes of golf, or a good ski-lift ticket.
Starting out you should have your own mask, fins and snorkel for the class. Greenwich Diving has a dive shop if you don't already have these.
You can rent Scuba tanks, buoyancy compensator jackets, regulator, and weight belts etc.
As for the Open Water, Scuba Diver Course, and the Discover Scuba course, the rental equipment is included (but not the mask, fins and snorkel).
